New funding partnerships announced with four UK galleries
October 2024
The Mildred Fund is delighted to announce four new grantee partners for 2024 to 2027. They are all leading galleries working in different contexts. Each has a strong commitment to working with underserved young people in their local communities. Funding has been awarded to:
- Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge: funding for three years to support work with North Cambridge Academy students, plus support for a Young Artists Mentors scheme with the wider community.
- Leeds Art Gallery: funding for three years to support the Gallery to work with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities settings to develop a sense of belonging, emotional understanding and literacy, and wellbeing.
- South London Gallery: funding for three years to support the Gallery to work with two local secondary schools to deliver an ambitious, artist-led, after-school programme.
- The Whitworth, Manchester: funding for three years to support a partnership between the Whitworth, Manchester Academy, and neighbouring hyperlocal youth sector providers.

Each gallery has a strong commitment to working with underserved young people in their communities.
The Fund is pleased to be working in new parts of the country and across diverse groups of young people in schools and in community settings.
Each project was developed through consultation with schools and community groups to establish the needs of the young people in each local community. The average percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals across schools participating in this year’s programme is 47%.
In-depth research into the programmes delivered by the new cohort will add to the growing evidence base and discourse focusing on the value of the arts for young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
The Fund’s Annual Research Report and selected case studies spanning these projects will be published at the end of 2025.
