South London Gallery Your Space to Make
After-school engagement with art
The South London Gallery (SLG) is delivering a new and ambitious after-school programme for local young people. Sessions are taking place at the Gallery weekly across the year. Participants have been recruited via partnerships with two local secondary schools near to the gallery: Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich (HGAED) and Sacred Heart Catholic Secondary School (SHCSS). Sessions are artist-led, with a new artist each term, and over the summer holiday, leading hands-on activities to enhance young people’s creative skills and wellbeing. The Gallery is prioritising working with mediums and techniques which are not typically available in school, with young people taking the lead in selecting projects. During half-term breaks, there is an Open Studio space for young people to work independently, with access to materials and support from the Gallery.
